Orlando, FL, United States (4E) – A three-story resort villa near Disney World partially collapsed due to a 60-foot-wide and 15-foot-deep sinkhole in the wee hours of Monday, forcing villa authorities to send guests to a safer place.
Nearly 36 guests were staying at the Summer Bay Resort in Clermont, Florida, at the time of the incident.
However, there were no reports of any injuries or deaths at the time of collapse of the building. “About 30 percent of the three-story structure collapsed around 3:00 a.m,” said Kelly LaFollette, a spokeswoman for Lake County, Florida.
“The Fire Department arrived there before midnight when we received the first call from the resort and started the evacuation,” she said. In a statement to WFTV, one of the guests reported sounds of breaking windows while guests ran toward safety.
The Disney World on the outskirts of Orlando, Florida, was temporarily shut down after the incident, LaFollette said.
