Tokyo, Japan (4E) – Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces (MSDF) on Thursday grounded P-1 patrol planes due to engine failure.
According to Kyodo News agency, experts found unstable combustion in four engines of a P-1 anti-submarine patrol jets during May 13 test flight over Aichi prefecture.
The MSDF had then grounded first two planes shortly after the incident. The Defense Ministry’s plan to deploy more such planes into force had also been postponed by this month end.
The ministry said 80 American P- 3C aircraft with about 70 P-1s would replace them now.
