Beijing, China (4E) – Apple launched the iPhone 5 in China on December 14 and after three days, it has already sold two million units. It’s an amazing number for Apple since it was predicted by analysts that the Cupertino-based company would have a hard time competing in China’s smartphone market.
The biggest reason why Apple’s iPhone 5 launch was successful over the weekend was its new reservation program. The program requires customers to reserve an iPhone 5 a day early. Each customer is given a time frame to pick-up their order.
“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China. China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in an official statement.
Apple is set to release the iPhone 5 in more countries soon. By the end of the month the iPhone 5 will be available in more than 100 countries.
The iPhone 5 features a 4-inch Retina display and an A6 chip for top performance. It runs iOS 6 and has over 200 new features.
